Windows will warn you before it runs. Here is why.

When you run the installer, Windows SmartScreen shows a warning. The common one says "Windows protected your PC". To continue, click More info, then Run anyway.

The warning is expected, and it is worth being straight about the reason: the direct-download installer is not code-signed. Windows treats every new release as an unknown file, so the warning appears again after each update.

Gistify-It is not malware. The app runs on your machine and writes markdown files into a folder you choose. Your content never leaves your computer except for the one pattern call you start yourself, and nothing you paste is stored on a server.

Some locked-down machines cannot run unsigned software at all. If your PC has Windows 11 Smart App Control enabled, or your organization's policy removes the "Run anyway" option, the direct download is blocked entirely. A Microsoft Store listing is on the way for exactly those machines: Store installs are signed by Microsoft and show no warning at all. If you would rather not pass a SmartScreen warning in the meantime, that is a fair call: wait for the Store listing, or use the macOS build, which is signed and notarized today.

How to get access

  1. 1 Install

    macOS: open Gistify-It.dmg and drag Gistify-It into Applications. Windows: run Gistify-It-Setup.exe. If your PC lacks the WebView2 runtime, the installer fetches it during setup, so stay online.

  2. 2 Request access

    The beta is invite-only. No invite yet? Open the app, enter your email, and hit Request access. One click, done. Invites go out in small batches, and you hear back by email.

  3. 3 Sign in

    Once your invite lands, sign in with Google or a one-time email code. Only your email address and an account ID are stored.
